Barbara Brown Wolling

Barbara Brown Wolling, 81, of Savannah, died at Spanish Oaks Retreat under hospice care Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Barbara was born May 9, 1944, in Savannah, daughter, of the late James P. “Jimmy” Brown and Grace S. Brown. She graduated from H.V. Jenkins High School class of 1962. Barbara was a ballet dancer and took classes under the direction of Ruth Goodman for several years. She attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Barbara returned to Savannah where she became the legal secretary to Superior Court Judge Dunbar Harrison until his retirement. She was an active member of the Georgia Association of Legal Secretaries and a charter member of the Savannah Legal Secretaries’ Association where she held the office of corresponding secretary for many terms. Barbara was an active member of White Bluff Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her son Samuel M. Wolling, Jr. of Chicago, IL and her cousin Jane Givens Kraft of Cleveland, GA, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, James William “Billy” Brown and devoted aunts and uncles Jerome L. Massett and Mildred S. Massett and L.T. Givens and Edna S. Givens.
The graveside service will be at 11:00a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Hillcrest Abbey East Memorial Park.

I interviewed Barbara about her older brother Billy's tragic death during the Cold War for the Savannah Morning News. His story was quite interesting, yet sad. It was wonderful of her to keep his memory alive. I send my condolences to her son and other family members.
